Ilayathalapathy, as he is affectionately called by his fans, is entering his 37th year today. He is at a very crucial phase in his career where he has achieved many things much early in his career while his more acclaimed seniors achieved the same things at a much later age in their career. Yet now, Vijay is now standing in front of a V where he has to decide which path to take. With the changing landscape of Tamil cinema where the big multiplexes are rapidly built and decide the collection of films in the first few days, he has to decide how he wants to make sure that his films are profitable to everyone concerned.

His has been a career glittering with blockbusters and superhits in equal measure. He started off in low key fashion with his dad's "Naalaya Theerpu" but later slowly started cementing his position in the industry gradually. He hit it big time with Poove Unakkaga and then started giving huge blockbusters like Kadaluku Mariyadhai, Thullatha Manamum Thullum, Kushi, Priyamanavale, Badhri, Friends, etc. He also went through the low periods where his films didnt do as expected. But still he has that uncanny ability of bouncing back when the chips are down. He did just that with Thirumalai and then gave a plethora of big hits like Ghilli (the best film in his career), Thirupachi, Sivakasi, Sachein, Pokkiri. Even though he has had another lull at the current moment, you can certainly bet your life on Vijay bouncing back with a bang.

His next film with Siddique (rumored to be titled 'Kaavalan') is being shot right now with Asin in the lead. A remake of the Malayalam film 'Bodyguard', it is said to be a good and different film that will definitely be another 'Thirumalai' for Vijay.
